Compaq Computer Corporation was a computer company founded in 1982, it is currently a brand of Hewlett-Packard.
Compaq was formed by Rod Canion, Jim Harris, and Bill Murto (former administrators of Texas Instruments).
The name «Compaq» comes from «Compatibility and Quality.»
It was one of the largest computer vendors in the world until it joined Hewlett-Packard in 2002. It had 63,700 employees in 2001.
