Have you ever wondered why they eat grapes in New Year?
Without a doubt, December is by far the favorite month of the year. We meet our BFFs, we exchange gifts and we eat delicious food 24/7. But, beyond the party and the opportunity to wear your favorite outfit, it is also a time of reflection, in which we prepare for the beginning of a new beginning.
In the middle of the Christmas season, it is common for different rituals to be performed to improve luck in love and money in the coming New Year. You may or may not do it, but without a doubt, we are sure that at least you do eat your 12 grapes without fail.
How did the tradition of eating 12 grapes on New Year’s come about?
The first thing you have to know is that it is a tradition originating in Spain, when in 1909, there was a very good harvest of grapes and the producers decided to make the most of this, to sell all the boxes they had saved. They did it with the idea of qualifying their clients as “lucky grapes”, which were in packs of twelve, symbolizing the twelve months of the year.
Over the years, the tradition has been modified. Nowadays, many of us have been preparing for days to write on one of our 12 wishes that we seek to fulfill, which we visualize when we eat each of the grapes.
What is the spiritual meaning of grapes?
The fact that the grape continues to be consumed in this December 31 ritual is also not surprising. This green fruit represents abundance, prosperity and fertility, as well as the attraction of good luck.
