Jeremy Musson, a chronicler specially known for his detailed investigations for Country Life In the 1990s and 2000s, he agrees that Clarence House will probably be used as a satellite of the Buckingham Palace. «The king loves that place,» he says. «I suspect that it will economize using the Buckingham Palace for official issues and it may even open it to the public, especially since the king is very demanding with the idea of optimizing the monarchy.»
Balmoral Castle was the favorite of the late queen. It was where he accepted the marriage proposal of Prince Felipe, where many summers passed and where he finally died. Even so, it could be one of the «delivered to the nation» properties, Vickers speculates. Unlike Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle, he says, Balmoral has been a private family possession since the 1850s, when he was erected by Queen Victoria and Prince Alberto. Vickers believes that it would be a good idea to transform the entire castle into a museum dedicated to Queen Elizabeth II – given that it was his favorite place – as well as his great -great grandmother, Queen Victoria: «How fascinating it would be! Of course he would go to see him,» he says. At present, only some parts of the castle (such as the stables and the dance hall), are open to the public, which is a disappointment for tourists who make the long trip to Aberdeenshire.
When Queen Mother died in 2002, King inherited Birkhall, a relatively modest country house in the early 18th century on the Balmoral estate. Vickers expects the monarch to keep that summer place given the affection he feels for him, as well as Highgrove House, in Glouceseshire (where he lives since 1980 and whose gardens he has taken care of for a long time), and the charming Welsh farm called Llwynywermod. Both properties belong to the Duca de Cornualles, the branch of historical investments that generates magnificent income to the Prince of Wales (who is now Prince Guillermo). In addition, the King also has a residence in the rural area of Transylvania and inlusing once he mentioned in a speech that he was «proud to be … a thirty -second Hungarian.» Even so, Musson warns, many expect the king, worried about costs, quickly review these and other real residences.
