The human being can only reach the astral plane through altered states of consciousness that allow his spirit or energy or astral to travel freely from his material body. Some believe that the astral plane is the same as the dream space, while others insist that they are two different states.
Many traditions consider that the astral plane consists of several levels, while some postulate multiple astral planes.
In the most basic, above, where the gods are, below, where the dead and the cyclical spirits reside and here, where terrestrial spirits reside -although some will also say that these places are not part of the astral plane.
Existence of the astral plane
There are much more complicated maps of the astral plane and whole books have been written on the subject (see the recommendations below). Theosophers, in particular, have investigated a lot about the astral plane.
In the astral plane, time and space do not exist as in the material plane. This allows skillful travelers to move through space and time quite quickly and efficiently to gather information, send messages and/or make changes in the astral plane. This change is generally achieved by astrally to a place and performing a symbolic action, such as cutting a rope or tie one, place or remove an object, clean an area, surround an area, person or object in an energy «bubble» or other container, etc.
All beings of the astral plane exist in an energy or spiritual state. This allows communication between beings that can be difficult when one of them, or even both, are in material state. In an energy state, information can be sent and received very quickly, without too many explanations.
Very complex concepts, or those that cannot be easily transmitted, can be transmitted visually (a vision) or perform some type of activity to get the message.
Some people make frequent visits to the astral plane to reduce or weaken their attachment to the physical/material level as a form of personal improvement.
Practitioners who visit the astral plane can often want to build an astral temple.
