What does it mean to consecrate

In magic, we usually hear about consecration; It can be the consecration of altars, ritual instruments, divinatory instruments, talismans, amulets, statues, candles, water and herbs.

Consecrating something is to do it and dedicate it to the service of the divine. This can be done to an area, as in the creation of a sacred space, to an instrument or ceremonial offering or a person, such as clergy.

Consecrrar simply means «making sacred.» It means purifying and blessing something and loading it with purpose. A skull is just a skull, but when it is consecrated it becomes a spiritual home. An Odin statue is only a statue until it is enshrined as a deity container. A candle is just a candle until it is anxisted with oil and loads with its purpose for a spell. A stick is just a stick, but once it is cut, it is smoked, anointed with oil, it is sprayed with holy water, it is given its purpose and loads with the desired powers, then it becomes a wand. To facilitate the consecration process, the more the object is actively used for its purpose, the more they can exercise.

Often an article clean with water or smoke first and then enshrined through a ceremony that implies a statement that this object (person, place or thing) is dedicated to the service of a God or group of specific gods or a sacred purpose.

The word consecrate is often used as a synonym for the word sanctify.

Main conclusions

The consecration in witchcraft is a sacred act that infuses spiritual energy to objects, making them powerful tools for rituals and spells.

It is essential to carefully select the objects you want to consecrate, as tools, amulets or talismans, since each object can have unique purposes and energies.

Before consecrating, exhaustive purification is necessary to eliminate any persistent energy or impurity of objects. To do this, methods such as break, burial or cleaning with salt water can be used.

To consecrate an object, concentrate your intention, use the elements and use spells or songs to load it with your energy and your purpose.

What can you consecrate?

Amulets and talismans have such historical roots that their origin is lost in the night of time. As such, the original purpose for which they were used has also been lost a long time ago. However, as our ancestors believed, the forces of these precious objects can intervene in our lives, help us in difficult times or favor our desires.

During a ritual, our intentions tune in with the same wavelength as that of the amulet or talisman, making us vibrate in unison with it.

At that time, we will become accumulators and diffusers of the energy provided by the amulet, which will not only influence materially, but also spiritually, in the person to whom we surrender it.

How are tools, amulets and talismans consecrate?

Make sure the moon is in its full or new phase the day you are going to perform the load and consecration ritual. We begin the preparations four days before the ritual with personal purification.

Get everything necessary to purify the object already yourself:

  • Buy or manufacture an amulet (it can be a medallion, a keychain or any totally metallic object, that is, without rhinestones, plastic, etc.).
  • Get with a completely white and natural fiber suit (a shirt, a bathrobe or what makes you feel comfortable) + a pair of white cotton socks.
  • Measure 2 stabs of fat salt.
  • Get natural incense in grain (and everything necessary to turn it on: coal and wooden matches).
  • Take 1 wooden stick (preferably hazelnut, but something as small as a tooth stick is fine).
  • Get a white paper envelope.
  • Get a red bow for gift packages.

Once you have gathered all these things, do the following:

  1. Turn off the mobile or anything that can distract you.
  2. Give yourself a fast shower and stop yourself too.
  3. For those who have a bathtub, pour salt in warm water and immerse yourself in it after showering, for at least 30 minutes.
  4. When you immerse yourself in the water, relax completely, freeing your mind from any thought related to the ritual or the reason for consecration.
  5. Get out of the bathroom, leave yourself and put on the totally white garment. Do not view yourself with anything uncomfortable or that restricts you, such as belts, lace or underwear.
  6. Also put the white socks, but do not wear any other shoes.
  7. Go to a little illuminated room and meditate for at least a few minutes, until you find your center.
  8. When there is silence inside you, proceed to purification of the object.

How to purify articles

  1. Turn on the incense with the wooden match and let it burn.
  2. With the right hand, grab the wooden stick and lift the object with it, be careful not to touch it with your hands.
  3. Submit it above the smoke of the incense and leave it there the time that your instinct suggests.
  4. When you are ready, say the phrase: I purify you with fire.
  5. With the left hand, take the envelope.
  6. Enter the object into the envelope, again without touching it.
  7. Close the envelope and turn off the incense.
  8. Dress again with your daily clothes.
  9. Somite the envelope, with the object even inside, in the garden.

After 3 days, disregard the object and proceed as indicated below:

  1. Turn off the mobile or anything that can distract you.
  2. Place the envelope, still closed, next to the incense.
  3. Complete the same highway ritual as before.
  4. Once you have meditated and found your center, turn on the incense.
  5. Subject the object with the hands.
  6. Close your eyes and display a white light ball on the palm of your hands that illuminates the object completely.
  7. Breathe slowly and deeply: you want energy to penetrate your object.
  8. Expresses the desire for which the amulet was charged and consecrated.
  9. Thus remain the necessary time to load and consecrate the object (time is subjective: follow its instinct).

How to consecrate objects, easier

Don’t you feel the need to do something so elaborated by a candle, a bottle of wine for the Sabbat or a herbal bag? No problem. It is enough to spray these objects with holy water, anoint them with oil or blow on them. Then, a prayer of intention whispers, so that the breath of your prayer touches the object in question.

Once your sacred objects have been consecrated and used for their purpose, they will need cleaning from time to time. Make a magical washing (for objects that can get wet: jewelry, skulls, swords, knives, pentagrams, statues and some divination tools). Over time, dirt and dirt accumulate in these objects.

Without varnishing wooden instruments require special care; Gently limit them with a damp cloth, or with a little flaxseed oil or Danish oil, or gently frot them with a little beewwood or a wooden conditioner. Do you have leather items? Do the same, use a wax or leather conditioner to soften them and clean them (keep in mind that this treatment is not good for synthetic leather). In the case of wood or leather, let the oil or balm dry throughout the night before re -placing the ritual instrument on the altar.

For skins or carpets, sprinkle them with sodium bicarbonate and let it stand for 15 minutes before shaking it. This eliminates odors in addition to cleaning the object. If you prefer, you can add essential oils to the bicarbonate before cleaning the objects to perfume them.

For tarot cards or wooden runes, good fumigation works well. However, you can also support purifying crystals on your tarot cards to clean them or even bury them.

Once or twice a year, replace your bags, amulets and temporary talismans. Bright’s crosses, for example, must burn and get again every year in Imbolc.
