Undine – Mythological and Fantastic Beings

undine

The undines are a variety of nymphs, typical of lakes and fresh waters.

Its formation takes place under the same conditions as those of any nymph but, normally, it is elemental forces of water that give life to the female body.

The undines have a bluish or green body, slightly webbed fingers and toes, pointed ears, and very long blue, yellow, or green hair. They can breathe both in water and in air.

They are very cheerful and mischievous creatures, and it is said that their laughter is capable of bewitching the travelers and sailors who meet them, to the point of losing their will.

The undines are not evil, their character is neutral, however they have always been thought to be evil due to the thousands of stories that tell of how some fishermen have found death when they were close to an undine.

They have fun playing with the humans who are nearby and, many times, they move the waters causing enormous currents, and they continue like this until they drown the fisherman or traveler, an event that is very entertaining for them. The truth is that they are not always aware of the evil they do.

Some undines have even fallen in love with humans, becoming, from that moment on, their greatest protectors.

An ancient legend tells that the undines do not have a soul and that if they find a human couple with whom to have a child, they also find a soul, although from that moment the pain and suffering are more intense.
