The word «rule» and the origin of the first calendars

Ancestral inspiration

A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post on Facebook in which I talked about my menstruation experience using the word «rule» and I was surprised by the reaction of a woman who expressed her rejection of this term because she associates it with something rigid and martial.

Although it is true that it is not an especially beautiful or inspiring word, when I say «rule» to talk about my menstrual blood, I think of our ancestors of the Paleolithic and the fact that they were the ones that created the first calendars and began to measure the time mathematically. I love imagining how these ancestral women marked incisions in animal bones, and in stones, to write down the passage of lunar phases, and to keep the account of their menstrual cycles.

In one of the talks that I gave in a primary school for girls of 9 and 10 years on menarche, we observe this famous image of the ‘Venus of Laussel’, and fascinated them to verify that the cornucopia has exactly 13 stripes, the same amount of full moons as a complete lunar year.

These days that we have finished designing the new lunar calendar of 2019 cyclical women, I feel that something apparently so simple It is actually essential, deep, revealing, ancient …

In case you do not know, since 2014 we offer a lunar calendar to all women squeezed to our newsletter. The first was red, associated with the archetype of the mother, the second lilac color, linked to the shaman, the 2018 of earth, connected with the old woman. And for 2019, green, to keep in mind the energy of the maiden.

This archetype is especially related to our ability to plan and mark objectives and with our most dynamic and active part. Another aspect of this archetype has to do with remembering with what it really fills us with joy and vitality.

When we integrate a lunar calendar in our life, we value the number 13 as an expression of the cyclical and sacred feminine.

Every year I print the calendar and hang it in front of my desk. I use it to keep in mind the phases of the moon in my plans for example for when I schedule workshops and retreats, some party, the beginning of a change, a ritual, a special encounter … I also mark in red the dates of my menstruations, to be able to see throughout the year the duration of my cycles and its phases.

If you are one of those who have already received it before, do you feel like sharing how you use your lunar calendar? What helps you? Please leave a comment below.
