The Serpentine Pavilion 2024 joins the Korean wave thanks to the design of Korean Minsuk Cho

He Serpentine Pavilion 2024 adds to the phenomenon of the wave Hallyu, term with which everything from South Korea is designated. Only days of its opening to the public, the images of the famous pavilion that will be designed by the Korean architect Minsuk Cho and his firm Mass Studies They have arrived. Under the name of Archipelagic void, Cho's proposal stands out for a building that serves as a nucleus and another five smaller constructions placed as a kind of constellation around it.

The ephemeral building that is built annually in the vicinity of the Kensington and that will open to the public on June 7 maintains a Island-constellation design which has 10 additional open and closed areas (all adaptable) where the cultural activities of the galleries will be extended. A statement has indicated that the concept will allow the building «to be intertwined with the natural ecology of the park and its temporary conditions.»

Minsuk Cho, the mind behind the island-constellation

For the 23rd edition of the Pavilion design, MINSUK CHOoriginally from Seul (capital with the taller abandoned tower) follows its characteristic line of «cultural architecture”With which he rescues elements from his native country. On this occasion he has poured it in the pavilion entitled Archipelagic Voidwhich will transform into a species of island connected to other small structures of different materials That seen from above emulates a star.

The Korean cultural element has not escaped and in the Serpentine Pavilion 2024 will come alive as Madanga patio commonly found in the old South Korean houses, which this time is reformulated as The central nucleus of the constellation. For Cho, the design of this archipelago demanded a different approach in which, far from the freedom of space, it was allowed to guide the needs of the galleries.
