The death date Although it is said that both authors died on April 23, 1616, none died that day. On the one hand, Cervantes died 22, a day before, but was buried until 23. And on the other, Shakespeare died several days later; The confusion in his case arose because in those years England was governed by the Julian calendar, but when they adopted the Gregorian and made the dates adjustment, it turned out that the death of the author of Romeo and Juliet actually fell on May 3.
False influences
What Shakespeare read Quixote and there are influences of this work in his work? The evidences seem to say the container, especially when it is analyzed that the Spanish writer was mainly a novelist, while the English was playwright. In addition, the response to why both came to use frame structures and subtramas is more related to that both coincided in an era and had similar influences, which led them to similar literary solutions.
The encounter theory
In texts and even movies, various characters have wanted to show a possible meeting between the two authors. The main reason is that in the biography of Shakespeare there is a period around 1590 in which it is not known of its whereabouts. Therefore, there is a hypothesis that at that time there was the encounter with Cervantes.
Even Mexican writer Carlos Fuentes went further and came to raise in a book of essays that both authors were the same person.
The coincidences
What both Cervantes and Shakespeare are shared are details of their lives farthest from literature. Both did not have descendants: the Spanish had no children, while the English had two, but one, Hamnet, died as a child, and the other, Judith, did give him a granddaughter, who finally had no more children.
Another fact is that both were buried in Churches consecrated to the Holy Trinity: Holy Trinity Church of Stratford-Upon-Avon for Shakespeare, and the Church of the Trinitarias of Madrid for Cervantes.
