Santiago Carbonell Foundation Museum, a project of love of art and society

This historic building dates from the year 1760which is why the INAH established the elements that should be preserved. Therefore, the project director, Miguel Concha Loyoladesigned a reuse strategy of the building focused on adapting the property as a museum and, at the same time, optimizing the space of each room.

In this way, the study Miguel Concha architecture It transformed the old rooms into galleries and the area of ​​Huerta and Corrales into a main room with a double height roof that is supported by a light structure that does not affect the integrity of the house.

The artist Santiago Carbonell (1960)who also has Spanish nationality, is a native of Quito, Ecuador. In 1980 Carbonell obtained the Reina Sofía Scholarship of Fine Artsin 1981 he set up his first exhibition and in 1982 he won an award from American Catalan Cooperation Institute to finally emigrate to Mexico in 1986. The painter established his study in the city of Querétaro, where to date he continues to create pieces cataloged by critics as realistic, although always with personal elements, and of classical iconography.

Thus, the importance of this architectural intervention lies in the rescue that was made of a historical space to give it a new purpose that, at present, benefits society through a public and free enclosure in which art, culture, history and architecture converge.
