Samhain altar

Now that Mabon has passed, it’s time to mount Samhain’s altar.

At the beginning of my practice, I explored and experienced a lot with the Sabbats. But over the years, I have found myself more and more rooted to my traditions. Every year, the altar is a bit different, but the elements are increasingly familiar to me. Like Christmas ornaments, I take them out and remember with love where I acquired them, who gave them to me or how I did them.

You may remember last year’s lace pumpkin 🙂.

These two pieces, the pentacle and the statue of the altar, are permanent accessories. The Pentacle was my first Wiccanian craft project. It shows. It has years of incense ashes, candle wax and «dust» herbal.

An absolute novelty is the clock. As I am an interreligious person, I like to find symbolisms around the world to incorporate them into my own pagan traditions. The clock is a Chinese/eastern symbol of death. It is a bit dark, but Samhain is, after all, a party to be in communion and honor those who are no longer there. It is also a reminder of how finite our time is here, and how precious every second is.

This is all for now. We hope to see more in Samhain in the coming weeks.

  1. Your altar is, on the one hand, very festive for the time and, on the other, very beautiful.
