MOST EXPENSIVE GEMSTONES IN THE WORLD

Thursday, February 04, 2016. It is no secret to anyone that precious stones are currently highly valued, and when talking about them, the diamond will always be a reference. However, what most of us ignore is that the most expensive gemstones in the world have a value that could be higher than that of a diamond. Find out below which are the top five:

5. Painite: It was discovered in Myanmar, around the year 1959, by the British mineralogist Arthur CD Pain, in honor of who bears his name. In 2005 it was recognized in the Guinness Book of Records as the rarest stone in the world, since until that year only 25 copies were known to exist. However, despite the discovery of two large repositories and, consequently, the recovery of thousands of crystals, it is currently one of the most expensive, with a value of 60 thousand dollars per carat.

4. Blue Garnet: Although it can be found in various colors, one of the rarest, and therefore most valuable, is blue. Which It can only be found in Bekily, Madagascar, where it was discovered in the late 1990s, as well as in the United States, Russia, and Turkey. Due to its high vanadium composition, when exposed to daylight it changes to a greenish-blue color, and to a purple color under incandescent light. It is priced at $1.5 million per carat.

3. Serendipity: Although it was discovered in 1902 by the gemologist Dunil Palitha Gunasekera, this gemstone is named after the ancient Arabic name for Sri Lanka, which was the place where it was found for the first time and where the main deposits are located. It is characterized by a cyan color and a complex composition that includes calcium, magnesium, aluminum, silicon, boron, and oxygen. It can be had for the modest price of 1.8 million per carat.

2. Red Diamond: Without a doubt, this precious stone always captivates and occupies a privileged place in the hearts of the most demanding buyers and collectors in the world; but a type of diamond that falls in love due to its extreme rarity, is the red one, characteristic that makes it the most valuable of the diamonds that exist, being its price of 2.5 million dollars per carat. Its main deposit is in the Argyle mines in Australia, of which between 20 and 40 red diamonds are auctioned every year.

1. Jadeite: Although jade is one of the most revered gemstones in the world for its properties, there are also two attributes that give it greater value: its color and beauty, imperial jade being the rarest and most precious variety of jadeite that can be found, being worth about 3 million dollars per carat. Although there are jade deposits in various places on the planet, the most important deposits are found in Myanmar.
