It is a dark, evil, and incredibly inhuman creature that feeds on the brains of humans, elves, and other humanoids. It is also known as illithid or illicid.
Physically, it has mauve-colored skin and 4 tentacles similar to those of an octopus come out of its mouth. In combat, he uses one or more tentacles with which he strikes at his opponent’s brain until the moment comes when he pulls it out and kills his victim.
Its enormous intelligence is only comparable to that of a red or gold dragon. In addition, its mental powers make the mind flayer one of the most dangerous creatures in the underground. This mental power is capable of enslaving even the strongest and most powerful beings.
Mind flayers have telepathy and thus communicate with other creatures. Their immense mental power allows them to levitate, charm monsters and people to remove their will, astral project and plane switch.

Their society is made up of large groups of illithids and their slaves. They reside in communities where an «Elder Brain» exists, which is nothing more than cerebral fluid from the brains of dead mind flayers. They communicate with him through telepathy and he alerts them to the presence of intruders. They use the slaves for the maintenance of the «Ancient Brain».
Mind flayers have no sex, but are capable of producing offspring twice in their lifetime. The average life of these beings is usually about 125 years.
