Milder temperature, ground lined with leaves, strong winds, drier weather, shorter days and longer nights, autumn is here! Considered a transitional period, it comes right after summer and precedes the arrival of winter and therefore can present characteristics of both seasons.
But does the period bring risks to plants and flowers? Or are there species that bloom well at this time of year? Agronomist Marcos Estevão Feliciano da forth gardenexplains that there are flowers that not only can we grow in this period, but it is also the best time for it!
“There is a myth that in autumn there is no flowering. In fact, in Brazil, we have a variety of climates and soils and there are species that flourish especially at this time, providing beautiful landscapes”, explains the expert.
He highlights Lent (grainy tibouchina), one tree which takes this name precisely because it blooms during Lent (forty days before Easter), being full of lilac flowers. Also very characteristic are the plane trees, whose leaves turn yellow during this period, especially in colder regions.
Liquidambar is another outstanding asset during the transition season. The contrast of its red leaves, with the blue sky or with the green vegetation forms a scene worthy of being appreciated.
However, it is not only in landscapes that one can appreciate the colors and beauties of flowers. The agronomist highlights plants that can be grown indoors. check out species that will keep their environments flowering during the autumn and what are the necessary precautions for this:
