When it comes to preparing an altar there are many questions that come to mind. Is there any altar we should imitate?
Let’s discover it with this article.
Main conclusions
Creating a witch altar is a personal and symbolic practice in many pagan and wiccanas traditions.
The key elements include an altar tablecloth, candles, crystals, herbs and plants, each of them chosen to align with specific intentions.
Statues or icons of deities, magical tools such as wands or athames, and tarot or runes can also be included.
Offerings, incense and seasonal decoration add depth to the altar, which serves as a sacred space for spells, meditation and connection with the spiritual path and the energies of each.

Is there any configuration that is better than the rest?
Actually, no! There is no best assembly. However, there are many ways to fix your altar to be powerful and aesthetically pleasant.
Some will say that it is necessary to use wood on your altars and that you must use predominant colors for the time of year.
In addition, several people claim that there are specific instruments that can not be missing in your sacred table.

Do you really need all this?
I do not intend to criticize the different ritualist formulas that each tradition adopts and demands. Everyone has its own truth and acts – I hope – in line with it. Let this really resonate in you. Otherwise, you run the risk of creating a lovely, colorful and attractively dressed showcase, but will not help you.
Personally, I cannot stop observing how everyone in magic, and esotericism in general, has become a source of a prosperous business, and many of the new era practices have contributed to increase their income.
The esoteric stores are full of statues, velvet cloths, wood or terracotta pentacles, decorated candles, loaded … Salsy censors.
But, did they really have the witches, between one life and another, the opportunity to buy all this scrap equipment?
For example, my altar is located in a corner of the most sacred room in my house. The place to place it was shown by one of my power animals during a shamanic trip. It is a low wooden table with inlays, but until I could afford that expense, I just used the bedroom night table.
Up there I have what is most important to me, which reminds me of the connection with Mother Earth and the elements and my path every day.
- A candle placed in a wrought iron candlestick, bought in Prague during a spiritual journey.
- A cup full of water and shells that a very dear person gave me.
- A black ceramic bowl full of runes.
- A decoration of censers on the one who burn the incense and mixtures of herbs that I prepare myself according to the occasion.
- A statuette of Mother Earth.
- Semi -precious stones that I picked up in sacred places for me.
- A coffee bean.

Each of these objects has its own history, its own energy, its own place. They decide if they stay, how and where.
And no, you will not find the photos of my altar on Facebook or other social networks.
I do not take my guests to visit him when they come at home for the first time. In fact, I make sure they don’t touch it. Because my altar is unique, precious and personal. It is an expression of my relationship with the sacred and with myself.
I leave you with advice. It doesn’t matter what you put on your altar or how you decide for the holidays. It doesn’t matter if you choose to place it in a furniture, on a shelf, on a desk or even in a small portalápices. It doesn’t matter if you dedicate it to one deity, to many, to the elements or whatever.
Don’t neglect it. Do not let it be filled with dust, that the wax of the candles gets rancid, that the colors are dismissed. Sit it as yours. Listen to it. Use it.
Cultivate your relationship with Mother Earth every day.
You are growing up.
If you have to be ashamed of having it at home and hiding it from parents/companions of floor/signifiers and others, do not make an altar.
Do it if you want to have a small sacred space in which to cultivate the relationship with yourself and with the divine, whatever the name you want to give it.
Do it if you want an energetically pure place to recharge and purify the most beloved objects.
Do it if you want to have a symbol of sacredness through which to express gratitude to everything around us.
Remember that it is a living entity that clicks with your own energy, with the energy of the universe, which transmits to the surrounding space.
Remove it like an old friend and help you do your magic!
