They are called in different ways in different languages ​​and in different communities. Sometimes names refer to the traditional medicinal use of grass, others to the aspect of grass or folklore associated with it, sometimes it is difficult to determine where the name proceeds.

Some say that the use of popular names shows that the ancient pharmacopoeia was based mainly on plants and that everything that suggests parts of animals or even humans is actually a code for a plant. However, this does not make much sense.

While it is true that many popular names of plants sound like parts of animals, there is no reason to assume that animals of animals were sometimes not simply parts of animals. We know that even today, «primitive» tribes practitioners often make use of animals of animals (and sometimes humans), and we know that oriental medicine occasionally uses parts of animals, why would we think that the ancients would not? We know that they used the entrails of animals for divination, blood to guess, why not parts of animals for medicine?
