Drider – Mythological and Fantastic Beings

A drider is a spawn of a drow who has been disowned by their goddess.

There is great reverence in drow society for the spider goddess, Lolth. When a drow reaches a certain degree of development, be it as a warrior, magician, etc., he is subjected to a special test ordered by Lolth.

Those who fail the test are cursed by the goddess and banished from their community. The curse transforms them into beings that keep the upper part of the drow, but the lower part of their body is that of a giant spider, usually with 8 legs.

Driders retain the same qualities they had when they were drow; the ability to cast spells, infravision, mastery of the bow and, above all, of the ax and sword. Of course, they also retain their aversion to light and their hatred of surface creatures.

They are aggressive, fast and strong beings. Their bites are deep and poisonous. The drider’s character is very unpleasant and, since they are not particularly sociable beings, it is common to see them alone or in the company of a spider.

They live tormenting their victims, chasing and harassing them until they manage to corner and kill them, either by hitting them with their paws or by biting them. After the slaughter, they feed on the blood and viscera of the unfortunate opponent.
