Have you ever thought about growing your own food? Know that it is possible to grow various vegetables at home from those you buy on the market. Of course, it will take a while, but having your own vegetable garden is a rewarding hobby. In addition, you will always have organic and fresh food on hand!
Follow these easy tricks to plant 13 vegetables:
1. Cucumbers
Make a cut in the cucumber and remove its seeds with the help of a spoon and place them in a glass full of water. The seeds that settle at the bottom of the glass are the ones that should be planted. Transfer them to soil and soon you will have fresh home grown cucumbers!
2. Lavender
Did you know that a lavender flower can provide a lot of seeds? Rub the flower in the palm of your hand to remove the tiny seeds.
Spread and wrap them in a paper towel, spray with water and leave overnight. Transfer to soil and within 8-10 weeks you will have new lavender plants!
3. Eggplants
Make a cut in the bottom of the eggplant, microwave for two minutes, peel, remove the seeds, add to a glass of water and strain. Now take an eggshell, fill it with potting mix, sow the seeds and transfer to the pot. Also, separate the seedlings when they start to grow bigger.
In just 12-14 weeks, you can enjoy fresh home-grown eggplants!
4. Ginger
Cut small pieces of ginger rhizomes that have buds, plant them in potting soil, making sure the cut side is down. Don’t bury it too deep. Water it well and keep it in an area with filtered sunlight. You’ll have new ginger plants in no time!
5. Potatoes
Take a sprouted potato and cut it into two pieces. Fill a pot with soil, plant the potato with the cut side down and the eye up, and water the plant. Soon, you’ll have fresh potatoes to fry!
6. Pumpkins
Cut off the top of the squash, remove the seeds, spread them in a potting mix and cover with a layer of soil and water well. This trick works well with gourds and melons.
7. Bell pepper
Cut the bell pepper and collect its seeds in a bowl. Now take a pot, fill it with potting mix, scatter the seeds, water well and place them where they get indirect light. The seeds will germinate within a few weeks.
8. Tomatoes
Here’s a simple trick for growing delicious tomatoes at home. Make half-centimeter thick slices of fresh tomato and place them on top of the vase. Cover the slices with a thin layer of soil, sprinkle with water to make the surface damp and wait – soon you will have new tomato plants!
9. Onions
You may have seen onions grow a little when they are stored. All you need to do is plant it in the ground to get fresh chives. Don’t bury it too deep. Water it well and place it where it gets partial sunlight.
10. Lemons
The next time you’re squeezing fresh lemons, just toss some lemon seeds into a glass, with potting mix. Water well and keep it on a kitchen counter or windowsill. Soon you will have a new plant.
11. Marigolds
Dried calendula flowers have seeds that you can use to start a new plant. Rub dried flowers with your hands over the flower bed or vase. Seeds will fall and germinate soon!
12. Pineapples
Pineapple is quite easy to grow and not as difficult as you might think. All you have to do is cut off the head of a fresh pineapple and grow it in a pot filled with fresh potting mix. It will form roots in 2-3 weeks and soon you will have a new plant.
