He Art Deco is More than a style. When climbing the Avenue de l'Hippodrome, in the shadow of bananas, the outgoing of the Bow Windows and the ornamentation of the tools anticipate the tone of this house with character. «The first time we visited her, he was impressed,» says Baptiste Rischmann, who, with Guillaume Gibert, forms the RMGB architecture study. «It was a beautiful house: it was noted that it had been well designed and well thought out.» However, the duo discovered that the interior had been subject to works by the previous owners, using false beams, moldings and other tricks. An attempt to bore the time, which made architects smile. «Normally, when we worked on a project, the guidelines are quite simple: everything must be disassembled and reassembled. In this case, the context was interesting. We had to redefine precise specifications for each room, asking us: what originally had it there? What do we keep? What do we not keep?» Baptiste explains.
The work of the archivists
A meticulous work of scrutiny of the slopes of the past was then carried out. The first challenge was to reflect on what had been added and decide whether it would be appropriate to eliminate it without damaging the historical heritage of the house. «A little like the archivists, for example, we had to use the original planes of the other bathrooms to reproduce all ceramics, very deteriorated by previous reforms. It was a really meticulous job, a kind of archaeological excavation,» explains the architect. To recreate the tiles in its subtle eggshell, with its slight cracks, a custom production had to be commissioned. According to this approach, Wooden furniture Of the previous owners, who evoked an outdated rural style, have been abandoned in favor of the original ceramic sink, unearthed from the basement and now returns to occupy a place of honor in the main bathroom.
