Psicología del Amor

Emilia, Nicki Nicole and TINI premiere ‘Blackout’, an Argentinian feminist satire

Tropical-style Latin music often refers to women in a sexist way, but ‘Blackout’ by Emilia, Nicki Nicole and TINI changed the game because instead of perpetuating the misogynistic tone of OG reggaeton, it makes a satire of female stereotypesspecifically in the Y2K era, where there was hypersexualization in almost all creative fields.

The Argentine singers combined their musical talent, urban fashion expertise and South American charm to creatively challenge the unrealistic expectations imposed on women, from physical appearance to fulfilling roles. But this is not an isolated effort, but, along with ‘Bunda’, the single that preceded ‘Blackout’, it will be part of the next EP by Emilia Mernes where she will deepen her social criticism in the company of several female colleagues.

Lyrics to ‘Blackout’ by Emilia, Nicki Nicole and TINI

I saw you shy

Tell me what your name is

Nobody has told you yet

that you are very good

That shirt is tight

I’m going to take it out of you

I want to get wet

With your lips flavored with caramel

Don’t worry

With this ass everything catches fire

And I hit him

and he stuck to me

It was hot and that candy melted

I took it from the dance

And he didn’t refuse

One night was not enough for us

I have a cow

The holy is taken away

When I grab her by the hair

If I could

I make him cufflinks

With mouth to mouth kiss

We pass the candy

I eat it completely

I want to make him scream

From A to Z

How pretty it looks on you

Wet shirt

He came to dance with me

Nobody messes with her

And I hit him

And she stuck to me

It was hot and that candy melted

I took her out of the dance

And she didn’t refuse

One night was not enough for us

If I wasn’t so shy

We would be more than two

On the wall if we stick

We are a classic

That’s why bring it

I know how to handle it

If you want my body

you can get lost

And we do it again

In that hotel room

You and I have skin

And you can’t deny it

Whenever you want

Call 0-800-NN

And I hit him

and he stuck to me

It was hot and that candy melted

I took it from the dance

And he didn’t refuse

One night was not enough for us

What happened addicted

I have you cornered

Let’s go shaved

Baby no doubt

That bodysuit is checked

I told him fuck me

You wanna know me?

This youth does taste like honey

Baby so hard

So horny

I want to get wet

With my lips flavored with caramel

Don’t worry

With this ass everything catches fire

And I hit him

and he stuck to me

It was hot and that candy melted

I took it from the dance

And he didn’t refuse

One night was not enough for us

And I hit him

Meaning of ‘Blackout’ by Emilia, Nicki Nicole and TINI

The material shows the protagonists working in an appliance store called Blackout during a wave of heat in a tropical city. So, melt customers as they arrive, as a metaphor for the dissolution of the social standards imposed on women who demand an eternally brilliant and unreal image. Thus, the workers establish that true feminine attractiveness lies in having identity, conviction and autonomy.
