The dance between the menstrual cycle and the moon: discover your own tune

Text:

I still remember the day that a friend gave me a lunar diagram for the first time more than fifteen years ago, to invite me to pay attention to how I felt throughout my menstrual cycle, and at the same time, to look at the sky and realize the growing and decreasing glow of the moon. At that time I suffered from tremendously painful rules, and when living in the center of a large city, I barely set me on the moon or thought that I could have an influence on my hormonal cycle or moods. Although with much skepticism, its loving way of explaining the meaning of a lunar diagram encouraged me to start an intimate diary. And thus began one of the deepest and transformative trips that I have made as a woman.

Now we are many women around the world that we know the beautiful fruits of this daily and monthly observation. Instead of judging or fighting the increases and decreases of energy that we live with each menstrual cycle, we recognize and understand the different qualities of its hormonal phases: the preovulatory stage with its dynamic appearance of the ‘maid Retirement of the ‘old woman’.

At the same time, our perception and connection with the Moon has grown in many parts, recovering the ancestral relationship enters the woman and lunar cycles, with that incredible similarity between the 29.5 days that a lunar cycle lasts and the average of the female menstrual cycle. Even the word «menstruation» reflects that connection, with its Indo-European «me-» root related to «moon» and «month» (in English Moon and months), and also with «measure.» Since ancient times, the lunar cycle offers us a powerful connection route with the forces of the cyclic: the growing moon associated with the energy of initiating and strengthening, the full moon as a time of maximum expansion and exteriorization, the waning moon with a time of greater internalization and letting go, and finally the black moon that invites freightness, purification and internal vision.

Flow between the lunar cycle and our menstrual cycle

With this double awareness of the phases of our menstrual cycle and the phases of the moon, this question often arises: How can I flow between these two cycles? In particular, there is some concern among some women because they feel that their menstrual cycle «is not in tune» with the moon; Doubts about whether to focus attention on the hormonal cycle or lunar, and desire to understand the meaning of having the rule in a certain phase of the lunar cycle or other …

In this personal and collective search and exploration, I share here some reflections to continue growing and recovering together our female wisdom. Please add your comments and contributions at the end of the article!

Let’s let go of the idea of a «correct» cycle

A first step is to get out of fixed or external ideas of what is «normal» in relation to our body and its cycles. For example, the statistics that the average duration of the menstrual cycle is 28 days has made many women feel «abnormal» to have a longer or longer menstrual cycle. But in reality a healthy cycle can perfectly range between 22 and 40 days and reflects the pattern of each. Another ideas that is feeding the feeling of «anomaly» is the apriorism that to be true with the moon, one would have to ovulate with the full moon and menstruate in the black moon.

Around the world, women menstruate and ovulate in all phases of the moon, And grace lies in discovering what this means for each one, from our internal and subjective experience. To deepen this path, I invite you to …

Observe, feel and register … lovingly!

When we address our gaze in and listen more and more carefully what we feel, what our body wants and needs, which flows easily at a given time and what does not … we begin to intimately recognize that cyclical wave that crosses us, both in relation to the dance of our hormones, and in relation to the flow and reflux of the lunar cycle.

There are many ways to collect these observations. One of them is through a newspaper or lunar diagram like this, expressing with words, colors or symbols the sensations and experiences that we live every day, and thus perceive better and better the characteristics of our own internal warning. It may be that at some point, what we notice or observe with more force are as phases of our menstrual cycle, on the other hand, the influence of the moon is more intense.

Throughout many cycles, this attentive and loving listens allows us to make our own ‘magical distillation’ and gradually refine in the answers to this type of questions:

How is it for me to have the rule with a growing moon?

How do I notice the preovulatory phase when there is a waning moon?

What moves in me when I am in the premenstrual phase with the full moon?

What do I feel when ovulo on Luna Negra?

… How do I live the dance between these two cycles in me? …

For each one, even with each cycle, it will be different

In addition to the influence of estrogens, progesterone and the moon, we can add the influence of stations and time, according to where each one lives. For example: What is the difference between the experience of ovular in full summer heat, in the tropics, ten degrees below zero or in Antarctica? Or how do we live this dance when we are mothers … when we live alone … when we are in a couple … when we start the way to menopause … in our work? Do we put it in common?

If you have not yet tried the exercise of filling a lunar diagram and you want to start it, you can download a version here with a brief explanation about how to use it. And if you feel that this is not your way, use your creativity to find what helps you listen to and feel: an application on the mobile … celebrate the phases of the moon with some friends … while you are in the shower … Dancing … randomly … when it arises …

Embriágate de la Luna

Undoubtedly, our ancestors lived with a collective and acute connection of the lunar cycle, much more in direct contact with the cycles of nature and without the contamination of artificial light. But even if we are in a city, or let’s spend many hours in interior sites, the moon continues to call us … suddenly we see it and magnetize us! With this call, let him keep touching you, more and more, on his journey through the sky … Look for it, feel it, talk to her, dispute it … Every time you find yourself, embryize your messages!

When it appears in the form of a fine arch with the sunset, a new lunar cycle … What does it suggest? What energy notes in you?

When it comes round and overflowing on the horizon and climbs to the zenith at midnight … What do you want to do? What effect does your light have on you? Get out of your rays … Feel your lighting skin … how long … load your precious stones … Drink a glass of water … Share the moment … where are you in your cycle?

If you are awake in the early morning and see the waning moon … What does it transmit to you? Do you want to release something with her? Watch yourself in your crib?

And when you leave out at night and there is no moon, only stars or clouds … What does your body ask you in this darkness? In what phase of your cycle are you? Do you feel the tide by moving your inner waters? … Your unconscious?

Through this direct connection with the Moon, with all our senses, we can discover more and more if it influences us and how, about our sleep cycles, our appetite, our creativity, energy, sexuality … and also about the people around us: friends, children, couple … and when we have passed through our last menstruation or menopause, it will continue to accompany us in the memory of the cyclical, from another one in a future article).

Discover your own tune

From this listening, sometimes deep, and subtle in others, of the moon’s turn, the wave of our hormones and the dance between them, our own tuning arises, always changing, always unique … recently a woman raised her concern on this subject in the group uteros sacred on Facebook, and another very wise woman replied with these words:

«There is not a single synchrony with the grandmother. You are synchronized with her when you know in which phase you are and in what phase she. That relationship speaks to you, teaches you about you, about what happens in your life. In time you will have some moons with the full grandmother and others with the black grandmother, it is normal because we are moving. The synchrony lies in being connected, reading your delays or advances with respect to the other periods. It is precisely that transit through the different moons that makes you go to your center, receive and honor your energies and those of the grandmother. That is being synchronized! ”
