Explanation of the Mica term

The word mica comes from Latin mica which means «crumb» or «grain», or Latin MICARE which means «shine.»

Mica is a family of minerals with similar properties: all micos are philosylic minerals (from the Greek «leaf», in reference to its flat nature, in the form of a sheet) that can be easily divided into flexible mineral sheets.

The micas are often found within other stones and give them a brilliant appearance.

Moscovita is the most common mica and, when people say mica, it usually refer to this mineral.

Mica is associated with the air element and the planet Mercury.
