The word Egrégor comes from the Greek ἑγρήγορος Egrḗgoros which means «awake» or «vigilant.»
The Egregor or Egregor is a term used by the members of the hermetic order of the golden aurora and the Cabalistic Order of the Rosicruces to describe the personality acquired by an independent group of its members. It is a kind of being in the form of thought that is formed from the collective consciousness of a group of people but that develops their own autonomy capable of exercising influence on the members of the group.
Groups can work and reflect consciously to create an egregor, but when groups work in pursuit of a collective ideal during sufficient time, it acquires their own life.
In the Abrahamic Tradition, the Egregor or Grigori, are the guards, a group of angels mentioned in the Enoch book and by Elphias Levi in Le Grand Arcane
