Lorena house: remodeling of an oasis in Mérida

In the center of Mérida, as part of what was once a Casona of the early twentieth centurythis property was divided several times until it reached its current dimensions, a quarter of its original size. The architects of WorkshopOffice led by architects Francisco Bernés and Fabián GutiérrezThey came here to take care of the recovery of this space with history.

While it had only 4.5 meters in front, the house had a rush with respect to the wall, something that is not common in the city center and that gave it A small access porchan element that the architects respected.

The result is Lorena housea residence with an oasis spirit in the capital of Yucatan; a house that returned to life thanks to the Fusion of architectural memory with art and colorwhich earned the project to be selected as a finalist in the icons of the 2022 design, in the Restoration category.

Remodeling with soul

After the architectural intervention, the first thing that greets is the Facade in pastel tones. “When we cross the facade, we access a small living room, which is located in the original creak with Roofs more than five meters high and that still retains its Beams Decauville brought from France in the henequene era and that were part of the construction system of that period, together with the wooden viguetillas, ”described the architecture office, which has already had other successful experiences in the Ancient area of ​​Mérida.

After this first social area, a large arch leads the tour of the kitchen, which included a central island of white quartz and coatings with pasta floor in blue tones, to integrate the colors of the beams in the first creak to the general space.
