The Dragones house: an architectural jewel in San Miguel de Allende

In one of the cobbled streets of San Miguel de Allende a dragon of centuries of age is erected. Born between colonial structures that if they spoke, they would not reach the words to tell the stories. But it is not a scammed and violent dragon, but an ode to Mexican design and the creatives that make it up; It does not throw fire but history; And it does not crush, rather receives avant -garde to adapt them to the classic style of the town.

We talk about The Dragones house, the most besieged and loved by design and architecture loversas well as for the faithful believers of the rescue of the ancient properties. And it is that of that goes the current architecture: to safeguard the assets giving them a different use, which can be used by the community.

A space with history

San Miguel de Allende does not require presentationbecause it is one of the most important colonial cities in the country; That by the way, it was appointed as Cultural Heritage by UNESCO and as the best small city in the world. However, it is also the home of a precious dragon that is symbolically represented in this fascinating house, whose history exceeds all expectation.

The construction of this enclosure dates from 1671when it was one of the most important stables of the place, as it housed the elite squad of the rulers of the time. Few could enter the house, but who did had no qualms about enjoying the strength and security that the big walls provided. During the War of Independence it also served as hiding and home, so it distills so many stories and anecdotes that perhaps, we would never finish telling or listening. After several years of serving as a kind of barracks, it was abandoned and therefore, careless.

Already in the twentieth century he went through a first rescue and remodeling; However, it was until 2022 that the change that moved us all came. We like to think that the dragon reborn with more forcewith more superb and therefore, with more weapons. Moreover, he resurfaced with a completely different style, but maintaining the essence of what was, that is, of an enclosure of historical and architectural importance in an equally special community in the country.
