The five works to meet Isabel Allende

The House of Spirits

He began with a letter published in 1982, was the first of Isabel Allende and the work that put the writer on the international radar. The plot follows social events of post -colonial Latin America through different generations of members of the Trueba family. The novel is qualified within magical realism and was taken to the cinema in 1993 in an adaptation (with script by Allende) star by Jeremy Irons, Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, Winona Ryder and Antonio Banderas.

Of love and shadow

After the success obtained «The House of Spirits», Allende writes another with this novel he published in 1984 and that tells the romantic history between a man and a woman. Although the argument could sound conventional, it stands out because the author developed it during their exile in Venezuela and precisely in the plot they get to reflect issues such as patriotic feeling in exile.

The book also became a stellarized film by Antonio Banderas and Jennifer Connelly.

Paula

It is one of Allende's most intimate works, because it is an autobiography that starts as a letter to his daughter Paula, who died at 29 in 1992. The book is a tour of the stages of the author's life, her daughter's disease, coexistence with her and the key characters that marked her.

The city of the beasts

The versatility of the writer were embodied in this book that mark her debut as author of novels for teenagers. The book is part of the trilogy of «The Memoirs of the Eagle and the Jaguar», which complete the volumes «The Kingdom of the Golden Dragon» and «The Forest of the Pigmeans».

The plot follows Alexander Cold on a trip with his grandmother to document the existence of a mythical creature known simply as «the beast.»

Beyond winter

It is one of the most recent and acclaimed novels by Isabel Allende and in its pages the writer explores the theme of migration and identity of America intermingled with love. It is worth mentioning that Allende currently has American citizenship and lies in that country for more than a decade.

The book arrived at the Berlinale, where he was chosen as one of the contestants to become a new film.
