Notes on breeding Nannostomus marginatus
A tank with 8 to 12 liters of water is suitable as a breeding tank.
So that the animals do not spawn in an uncontrolled manner, the breeding pairs are kept separately according to gender. The water parameters during keeping correspond to the water parameters during breeding.
A spawning grid is attached 2 to 3 centimeters above the tank floor. In an 8 liter tank, the water level above the spawning grid is 5 – 6 centimeters and thus reaches about 2 centimeters below the edge of the tank.
The breeding tank is darkened from above. A breeding pair is used. If the sexes are difficult to discern, a small group of 3 to 5 animals is used.
After spawning, the breeding pair is caught and the spawning grid removed. The breeding tank is completely darkened for five days.
The young hatch after 2 days. After 5 to 6 days, the young swim freely. From the 4th day, Liquifry is given as feed. Artemia nauplii are fed from the second week after free swimming.
General information about three-banded tetras

Three-banded tetras, Nannostomus trifasciatus, often swim in the upper third of the aquarium. The free swimming space can be less than 1/3 of the upper pool space. But they colonize the whole basin.
The center of the pool is sought out to impress. In the evening they look for growth on the ground for food.
The animals also like to stand between cryptocorynes.
The animals must be kept in an appropriate manner. The number of animals must be large enough to form several squads. 10 animals is the lower limit.
The sex differences in three-banded tetras

Females are significantly fuller in the abdominal area than males. Females are also slightly larger.
The males have more pronounced, white fin tips and are more vividly colored than the females.
After a while, males and females can be easily distinguished by their behavior. The males impress and fight constantly.
