The original scientific name Rasbora dorsiocellata macrophthalma is no longer current. According to new findings, the light-eyed rasbora was re-described and now belongs to the genus Brevibora, which was newly formed. The current correct name is therefore Brevibora dorsiocellata macrophthalma. This is the Little Light-Eyed Rasboa.

The basic color is mostly champagne to cream and there is a conspicuous black spot on the dorsal fin. The light-eyed rasbora owes its name to its bright, light blue eyes. There is another slightly larger species, but it does not have the bright blue eyes.
gender differences
The male’s body is slimmer and smaller than that of the female. In addition, its coloring is more strongly developed.
breed
Breeding the glow-eyed rasbora is not easy. So far it has only been successful in isolated cases. In any case, a separate rearing tank is absolutely necessary. Parents must be removed from the tank after spawning, otherwise they would attack and eat their own brood. To ensure that the brood survives safely, a spawning grate has proven to be helpful.
A pair suitable for breeding should be stimulated in the breeding tank with very good live food. The male can also be placed in the breeding tank a day or two later. Bring the water to a soft, somewhat acidic state. Supplied humic substances are definitely beneficial. The first young fish hatch after about 24 hours and should be provided with as little live food as possible. Artemia nauplii can also be offered later.
socialization
Shrimp can be kept excellently together with Brevibora dorsiocellata macrophthalma. Crayfish, on the other hand, could see the small fish as food. Socialization should be avoided here. Other fish that are not too big and have similar keeping parameters usually do not pose a problem and can live well with the glow-eyed rasbora.
Aquarium requirements
A dark, sandy substrate is recommended to optimally bring out the iridescent colors of Brevibora dorsiocellata. In addition, floating plants should be brought in, which dampen the incident light a little.
The little glow-eyed rasbora is happy about a lush planting at the edges, in which it can hide well. He is also grateful for caves and roots that are offered, but since he is very fond of swimming, enough space must be provided for this. A school of 20 fish feels most comfortable, but then the aquarium should be at least 80 cm long.
