The sea jug, ezannos, is a relatively small one African sea urchin species. The attractive floating leaf plant develops pretty leaves and flowers. They are used on the water surface, which is why an open aquarium or paludarium is recommended.
Seapot, ezannos is also known as Ezannos seapot. The scientific name is Nymphoides ezanoi. The species name ezannoi is intended to commemorate the botanist and plant collector Père Ezanno. The plant has only been around in Europe since 1988.

The sea jug ezannos is a relatively small species of sea jug. Typical features are the round floating leaves and the numerous flowers.
The floating leaves show an oval to circular shape and a straight edge. With a diameter of 5 to 10 cm, they are reminiscent of the leaves of water lilies. The color design is slightly marbled. They are olive green on top and green to dark red on the underside. Near the style is the so-called leaf blade.
A young Nymphoides has delicate underwater leaves with a light green tint. As the plant matures, these are replaced by floating leaves. These sit on long shoots.
The approximately 2 cm large flowers sit below the leaf blade and near the style. They are white with a yellowish color in the middle. The edges of the petals tend to have a wavy shape.
They are slightly fringed and slightly hairy at the beginning. 10 to 25 flowers can develop. They are above the water surface.
distribution
The African floating-leaf plant thrives in the tropical climates of Senegal, Mali, Nigeria, Chad and Sudan. There it prefers to grow in stagnant waters that regularly dry out. The water temperatures are high and the bottom is soft.
husbandry conditions
Nymphoides ezannoi is one of the frugal plants. The maintenance in the aquarium is easy and the results are good. With regard to their growth pattern, an open tank with a shallow water level is recommended.
The plant must not swim freely and must be fixed to the substrate. The right subsoil is soft and rich in nutrients. The correct water temperature is at least 24° and at most 30° Celsius.
A good nutrient supply is achieved through the water and an additional dose of nitrate and phosphate. Additional lighting can provide sufficient light.
If the care conditions are right, the sea jug will grow quickly and vigorously. It forms many leaves and flowers as well as strong young plants. If it begins to proliferate, it should be reduced to protect the other living beings. To do this, shoots must be carefully removed.
Propagation is vegetative. The young plants are carefully separated from the mother plant and planted elsewhere.
particularities
A young Ezannos sea jug will thrive submerged in the aquarium. At the beginning of development, only submerged, delicate green leaves appear. After a short time, the large floating leaves and the many white flowers appear.
