When they are doing well they are very agile, swim around a lot and the body coloring intensifies. Important requirements are: a life in a group of 10 or more members in a spacious aquarium, clear water of soft and acidic quality and good food.

The setup of the aquarium may only be densely planted in places so that there is enough space for the tetras to swim. are to be used Stand and many floating plants. A dark ground emphasizes the beautiful body shape of the animals particularly well.

food

are spark tetras omnivore. In the wild, they prefer to feed on live food such as small invertebrates. In the aquarium you can get, for example, white mosquito larvae and types of frozen food such as Artemia or Cyclops. They also take commercial, finely grated dry food.

It’s best to get it twice Smaller amounts of food distributed throughout the day. If there are juvenile fish in the tank, they can be fed three times a day. This way the fish have variety and less/no digestive problems.

As soon as the young fish have eaten the yolk sac and begin to swim freely, paramecia and other protozoa can feed. After a few days they get dust food and Artemia nauplii.

breeding and rearing

These are free spawners with demanding breeding behavior. The water in the pool needs an overall hardness of less than 5° and a pH value of 5.5-6.5.

After mating, the female puts up to 100 eggs on plants, objects and the substrate. The sticky fabric simply sticks to the surface.

It works best breeding with several pairs in an extra small tank. Since the parents spawn robber are, they have to go back to the actual aquarium immediately after laying their eggs. After about 36 hours, the larvae hatch and swim around freely.

socialization

Spark tetras are relative small, quiet and peaceful contemporaries. The Roommates should also be small, quiet and peaceful be. Small mailed catfish, armored catfish, shrimp and dwarf shrimp are suitable, for example.
