The 2 goldfish shown have been living with another 4 goldfish in a pond for about 3 years. They always came into an aquarium over the winter, as the pond is not too deep. A small bump developed in one fish during the first winter. The bump got a little bigger in the last year. This year the bump continued to grow (see picture on the left). In addition, another fish got smaller pustules (see picture on the right). Symptoms and developmental history suggest carppox.

Goldfish probably with carp pox. Based on the photos, a bacterial infection with simultaneous sporozoa would also come into question. Because plaque and bubo appeared on a pond resident in the spring, typical of carppox, this disease is more likely.

Goldfish with possibly carp pox. However, it lacks the waxy appearance. Therefore, bacteria or fungi cannot be ruled out as the cause, some of which can cause similar symptoms. Tumors are also possible, although it seems unlikely that a fish with such large tumors would live seemingly unaffected.
causes
The carp pox are caused by viruses. The typical deposits on the body and fins are tumors on the skin. Infected fish can become emaciated. In some cases, the skeleton softens.
Affected animals can remain unaffected for a very long time. However, they grow more slowly than uninfested animals.
As a rule, carp pox only occurs in the cold season. Often only a few smallpox appear on the fins at first. Because it is a skin disease, smallpox can be carefully postponed. Smallpox are waxy white to slightly yellowish and hard.
treatment suggestions
There is no known safe treatment. Raising the water temperature, vitamin-rich feeding and salt baths are recommended.
