Sera omnipur S is a drug with a broad spectrum effect. It is used against common ornamental fish diseases in freshwater. Administering the drug makes sense, among other things, when non-specific symptoms are present and no precise diagnosis can be made. This is particularly common in mixed infections. The drug is helpful for various bacterial infections, including fin and gill rot, fungal infections, unicellular skin parasites, skin and gill worms, and external injuries. However, the drug can also be used generally for disinfection. This is recommended, for example, to prevent potential secondary infections. 100 milliliters of sera omnipur S contain 3375 milligrams of ethacridine lactate monohydrate, 600 milligrams of acriflavinium chloride, 105 milligrams of aminoacridine hydrochloride and 79 milligrams of malachite green oxalate. All active ingredients that are often used in the medication of aquarium fish.
The drug is very effective and can also be used wonderfully in larger aquariums. The range is a proud 1000 liters. There are different options for dosing. Among other things, a one-time dosage of 1 milliliter to 20 liters of aquarium water is recommended. The remedy should then remain in the tank for 5 to 7 days. If the water is changed during this time, it may be necessary to add more water. After the end of the treatment, a water change is definitely recommended. If it should be necessary, a follow-up treatment can always be carried out afterwards. As efficient as the effect of the drug is, the combination of the active ingredients can sometimes lead to unpleasant interactions. It is therefore advisable to monitor the water values during the treatment with sera omnipur S. It is advisable to pay particular attention to the pH value, nitrate and nitrite. The active ingredient ethacridine lactate in particular can have a harmful effect on aquatic plants. If any abnormalities are found, it may be advisable to discontinue the treatment.
If no effect is achieved, Sera omnipur S can also be used after 24-hour filtering over activated charcoal. With this type of treatment, it is important to ensure good ventilation and turn off UV lamps. After completing the treatment, it may be advisable to filter again to remove the remaining active ingredients from the aquarium water. If there is no improvement even after this alternative treatment, you should use another medication from sera or consider a visit to the vet. The agent must be kept out of the reach of children, as the active ingredients can pose a potential source of danger if ingested.
