Normally armored catfish eat everything that falls on the ground. Because of their build, they find it easiest to eat from the ground.

Armored catfish can sometimes even feed on the excretions of the other fish. In terms of intestines, they are able to convert 70% of the 30% residual energy content of fish excrement.

Nevertheless, they should not be regarded as leftovers in the aquarium, as is often read. They need whole food, not just leftovers, to stay healthy and thrive. That is why they multiply in nature when there is a large supply of food.

Because when feeding sparingly in the aquarium, hardly any food reaches the bottom, armored catfish should also be fed with food tablets, eg Tetra TabiMin. These tablets quickly sink to the bottom.

Specifying a specific amount of food is very difficult for armored catfish. Armored catfish are bottom feeders, ie they spend a lot of time searching their habitat for food. They search every corner and look for food.

If a food pill is thrown into the tank, they will come and eat whatever they can get right away. Remaining food is thrown up by the movements of the fish and distributed in the aquarium. The armored catfish look for and eat these remains later.

As an approximate measure, approx. 5 mailed catfish should be given as many food tablets per day as they eat in approx. 30 minutes. 1 to 2 fasting days per week should be observed.

Like practically all fish, they particularly like to eat live food as a substitute for frozen food.

Appropriate feed:

When eating, armored catfish sometimes squeeze part of the food out of the gills.
