The Bielefeld Kennelhuhn was by Gerd Roth in the 1970s bred from various other breeds (Amrock, Mechelen, New Hampshire and Rhodeland).

It was first introduced as the «Deutsches Kennhuhn» but was later renamed to Bielefelder Kennhuhn to remain true to the region where it was bred.

The Bielefelder Kennhuhn bred in Germany is one of the heaviest and largest breeds among the chickens. It is characterized by its smooth feather coat, with which typical Kennsperber pattern.

The feathers go from a brownish head area to dark brown to black feathers on the tail. The Bielefeld Kennhuhn is probably one of the most beautiful chickens and is also easy to keep.

The Bielefeld Kennhuhn is characteristic calm and relaxedis opposite to people too trusting and quickly makes friends with conspecifics. There are no quarrels between the chickens. It is great for beginners and is easy to hold and has low claims.

A fence height of up to 1.5 meters is sufficient. The enclosure should be big enough, but apart from that the Bielefeld Kennelhuhn is happy with almost everything.

Sufficient freewheeling is important, so that the chicken does not become too fat. It is weatherproof and doesn’t mind the rain. However, shelters should be built in so that the chicken can retreat.

gender differences

Since the Bielefeld Kennelhuhn has short feathers, the red cockscomb very easy to recognize. In addition, the Kennsperber coloring is more obvious in a rooster than in a hen.

Anyone who has had the chicks of the Bielefeld Kennelhuhn since birth can see a few days later a sex difference.

While the male chicks have yellow feathers and a white back stripe, the female chicks have light brown feathers with a dark brown back stripe.

breed

It is worth breeding the Bielefeld Kennelhuhn because it lays a lot of eggs. Breeding is easy and there is nothing that needs special attention for this breed. However, their breeding instinct is low.

rearing of the chicks

The chick of a Bielefeld identification chicken grows up quickly and is just as undemanding as its adult friends. An egg can be individually raised and hatched with a heat lamp.

But it has to weigh at least 60 g, so that it can be bred. Simple rearing feed is sufficient to feed a newly hatched chick.

As already mentioned, chicks differ in sex immediately after birth. While males have yellow feathers, females have brown feathers.
