Luis Beltrán was born in the city of Valencia, Spain, in the year 1526. He was a young adventurer and open to challenges who always remained obedient to the voice of the Lord. This even made him manage to overcome the opposition of his father and enter the Dominican Order to be a priest.
With long steps the saint of the day October 8 went towards holiness. He was only 23 years old when he received priestly ordination. On the other hand, he was responsible for the role of master of novices, which he did until he decided to venture into the evangelization of the new world.

Saint Luis Beltrán was very busy with the salvation of souls in Colombia. He did so without ceasing to prophesy and denounce the injustices that were committed there against the indigenous people and, later, against the black slaves.
For having converted thousands of indigenous people throughout the country, San Luis endured the suffering promoted by the Spanish explorers. Twice they tried to poison the saint and on other four occasions, he was assaulted and threatened with death.
But he was not intimidated. Saint Luis Beltrán only returned to Spain when he received orders from his superiors, and he did so with the intention of better recruiting and training apostles who came to evangelize in America.
In 1569, in Spain, San Luis Beltrán can share through the words of his experiences in numerous missions. He taught everyone that a life of prayer and sacrifice is the most effective weapon in the conversion of souls, and that preaching must be accompanied by good works.
In the year 1581, at the age of 56, today’s saint passed away in his hometown.
