There is no doubt that green smoothies, whether they are a trend or not, they have come to stay. So since this is something that sooner or later we will be testing, incorporating and even perfecting in our daily lives, let’s try to get the best out of it.
How to prepare and optimize your green smoothies
Today I propose 9 little tricks to put into practice with your green smoothie, to make its preparation easier and to encourage you to try new options.
1. Don’t limit yourself to fresh vegetables
Fresh vegetables are our priority, but frozen ones are also a perfect option. If we only have access to frozen strawberries during the winter, nothing happens, this option is usually more accessible and cheaper.
They also make the smoothie more refreshing. Make sure that the ingredients are exclusively fruit and do not have added sugar. Whenever you can, choose the organic version.
If you have in the refrigerator some vegetable that you are going to miss Because you know in advance that you won’t be able to use it in the next few days, wash it, cut it into pieces and freeze it in airtight bags. I usually do it with cucumbers.
2. Make cubes with leftover tea and vegetable milk
Don’t waste! If you have 2 sips of vegetable milk left in the carton, do not throw it away, put it in an ice bucket and make cubes that you can use in your next smoothies. The same with other drinks such as infusions, teas or green juices.
3. Or make them with leftover fruit!
Do you have very ripe fruit? Beat it and freeze it, filling the spaces in the ice tray. It will be a quick way to add frozen fruit to your smoothies.
You can do the same when it is season of a seasonal fruit specifically, for example strawberries, blackberries or raspberries. If you take a trip to the forest and collect a good amount of wild fruits, you can freeze them and eat your own harvest all fall and winter.
and this not only with fruitsAlso try this little trick with green leafy vegetables, beets, carrots, etc… although these will be better to steam or boil before grinding and freezing.
4. Leave the ingredients ready in advance
Get organized in advance. Choose 2 or 3 smoothie recipes that you like, buy the ingredients, wash them, cut them and put them in airtight bags to freeze. With a permanent marker write the name of the smoothie on the bag to identify them faster.
All you have to do when you want to make a smoothie is open the freezer, pour the contents of the bag into the blender, add the liquid, and “Voilà!” Green smoothie in 10 seconds.
5. Hit big
Multiply the ingredients of a recipe by 4 and leave the green smoothie prepared for several daysabout 2-3 max. Obviously this is not the best option because the longer we take to consume the shake, the more time we give to the degradation of its vitamins and enzymes. But it will always be a better option to drink a prepared shake that will still provide us with good amounts of micronutrients, fiber and water, than not drinking it or replacing it with a coffee with milk and a croissant.
Store the shake in single doses inside glass jars that can be sealed or inside thermoses. The only thing you will have to do before drinking them is give them a good shake-shake.
6. Enrich your smoothies with superfoods
Don’t make green smoothies, make super green smoothies. Increase the nutritional value of your smoothies even more by adding superfoods such as maca, acai, spirulina or cocoa powder.
You can also add vegetable protein such as hemp or pea to make them denser and transform them into a complete meal, with the advantage that it will be easier to digest.
7. Don’t drink them, eat them
If you are tired of drinking smoothies, then eat them. Make them thicker using oat, hazelnut or hemp milk, 1-2 tablespoons of plant protein or simply adding less liquid to make it a spoon breakfast.
You can also add toppings. such as granola, cocoa nibs, Goji berries, Mulbrries or other pieces of fresh fruit to make it even more appetizing and to remind you that you should always chew your drinkswhether smoothies or juices.
8. Invest in a good blender
The more powerful the blender, the more homogeneous the shake will be and in fewer seconds. This will prevent the appliance from heating up. and raise the temperature of the smoothie while preserving its vitamins and enzymes as much as possible.
The good thing about blenders is that They are super easy to clean. Once the smoothie has been freshly prepared, rinse the blender cup with just water and that’s it!
A couple of times a week I do recommend putting a few drops of soap into the blender glass, filling it halfway with warm water and blending for about 20 seconds to achieve a deeper clean.
9. Get inspired!
Nowadays social networks like Instagram and Pintarest are full of photos of succulent smoothies. Get inspired, get ideas, create…
