6 Pilates exercises that imitate the Reformer using only a towel to strengthen the entire body at home

Practicing pilates, machine, can be very interesting to tone the muscles, in addition to work on balance, stability, coordination and mobility with an intense core work. However, everyone can afford Pilates sessions with machines like the famous Reformer, either because they cannot find this type of classes in their area, or because of their high price.

For this reason, the trainer and influencer @movewithregis proposes that we carry out towel pilates sessions to imitate the movements performed with this popular machine and obtain the same benefits on a body level.

Side squat

It is a squat that is performed sliding a foot on the Reformer and flexing the base leg, while the other remains stretched.

  1. To do it on the floor, you can help yourself with a small towel, placing it under the foot that slides to facilitate the opening and flexion movement.
  2. You will notice the intense load on the base leg and a big stretch on the inside of the leg that is extended.
  3. The hands must remain behind the headwith elbows open.

Is a demanding exercise for the abdomen which consists of bringing hands together, legs stretched, raising the gluteus towards the ceiling.

  1. To do it on the ground, you must place the towel under the feet and rest your hands on the ground.
  2. Part of a high plank posewith your hands aligned with your shoulders and your feet, the same width apart.
  3. Slide your legs towards your bodyuntil the hip is as elevated as possible.

It is about making aforward leg bendas if we were taking a big stride and bringing both arms stretched parallel to the ceiling.

  1. Although on the Reformer, it is the front leg that slides, on the ground the slide is done with the back leg.
  2. You must slide until the front thigh is parallel to the floor and the back foot is as far away as possible, without losing control.

Work obliques and back with this exercise that is normally performed on the Reformer and that this trainer suggests we replicate on the floor, just using a towel. As?

  1. Supporting the entire weight of the body on a calfcarrying the other leg stretched open on the floor.

  1. To do this you must place a towel in each hand and place yourself in a position quadrupedwith the hands placed under the shoulders and the knees under the hips.
  2. from there slide your hands forwardwith the arms stretched slowly and maintaining the straight back and strongly activated abdomen.
  3. When you reach the ground with your trunk, slide your arms to the sides, as if you were taking a big stroke, until you bring your hands to chest level and push off the ground to return to all fours.

In the dead bug, he proposes add some weights to your hands to give intensity to abdominal activation. (It is the fifth exercise in the series that the trainer shares in her reel).

  1. You must place a towel under your feet and support only the soles, raising the heels.
