The yellow phantom tetra is a freshwater fish. It belongs to the genus of phantom tetras and, as mentioned above, occurs wild in the following areas: French Guiana and Suriname.

The black spot on the rather flat and high-backed body is particularly noticeable on the yellow phantom tetra. The risk of confusion with a red-blue Colombian is high, since the fish differ only in their basic color. The yellow phantom tetra is colored green-yellow in the area of the body, its fins have different colors. The caudal fin is usually pink or red. The dorsal and anal fins are green or olive. Compared to the body size, the eyes of the yellow phantom tetra are very large.
He will 5 years old.

Yellow phantom tetras can be bought for approx €5 purchase per copy in specialist shops or order online.

gender differences

In appearance, male and female yellow phantom tetras differ only in their size. For a layman, the differences are hardly noticeable.

breed

Yellow phantom tetras are free spawners. Breeding in an aquarium is but anyway possible.

A spawning grid should be used in a breeding tank. The water values should be set rather acidic and soft. The parent animals must be sufficiently fed with mosquito larvae during breeding. As a result, the spawn forms much faster in the female.

In the case of a spawning approach, the parents should be placed in a separate rearing tank. There they usually spawn quickly and the phantom tetras have to be put back in the original tank so that they don’t eat the spawn.

The young should then be reared on small amounts of live food.

socialization

The yellow phantom tetra is a very uncomplicated and peaceful specimen and gets along well with conspecifics and other peaceful species including smaller tetras, barbel, catfish and all viviparous species. Socialization with snails and shrimp is also possible, careless shrimp young could be eaten by the yellow phantom tetra. The very popular Amano shrimp is therefore ideal, as it is one of the highly reproductive species.
