Veiltails belong to the order der carp-like (Cypriniformes). They are a breeding form (cruel breeding) of the common goldfish Carassius auratus. Their body and fins have been extremely modified through breeding. The fins are greatly enlarged, and in some cultivars the caudal fin shows one or more superimposed veils. There are copies with mother-of-pearl and metallic colors shiny body shape. Depending on their lineage, the fish reach one stately size of up to 25 cm Body length.
attitude
Veil tails are suitable for tall ones cold water aquariums, which can be left unheated at room temperature. However, the temperature must not be less than 15° Celsius. Although these are cold-water fish, they can also tolerate temperatures of 25° Celsius. However, such higher temperatures should be used with caution, since the digestion of the animals is stimulated and the water is polluted accordingly. In order for the animals to stay healthy, they need a lot of exercise. This enables a large Aquarium of at least 50 liters of water per specimen.
are veiltails peaceful and sociable fish, which easily become sluggish and ill when kept alone. Experience shows that they are absolutely necessary in a Group of at least 3 specimens should be held. Then they become much more agile, swim around together and browse.
The animals like to nibble on soft plants, which is why robust plants with a stable stand belong in the tank. One is ideal balanced mixture of underwater and floating plants. Some retreats in the form of roots or piles of stones should not be missing in any pool. Since the Veiltails like to dig aroundthe substrate should be soft and consist of fine sand.
food
are veiltails omnivore and pretty greedy. The diet must be balanced so that the ornamental fish do not become overweight, sluggish and their life expectancy shortened. In addition, the leftover food sinks to the bottom, which significantly affects the water quality.
Proper nutrition exists from different types of feed. Live food, dry food, frozen food, plant-based food and high-fiber food should be given alternately. Plant-based foods consist of green leaves of lamb’s lettuce or dandelion, peas, corn and potatoes.
Rather than feeding a large amount at once, we recommend 2 to 3 small portions throughout the day. Ideally, one fasting day per week is observed.
gender differences
The sexes of Carassius auratus are difficult to distinguish from each other. The female is slightly stronger than the male. Above all, however, their opening is turned outwards from the anus.
breeding and rearing
are veiltails free spawners. The female likes to lay the spawn just below the surface of the water, where the Glue eggs to the floating plants.
The larvae hatch after about a week and are 1 to 2 mm in size. The juveniles have a neutral color. They only get the typical shimmering tones of the veiltails after months of development.
socialization
The socialization works with other peaceful cold water fish.
