Does UV light help against algae?

The radiation from a UV clarifier also kills algae spores. Since algae release a large number of spores, a UV emitter can only ever reach and kill some of these spores. A UV clarifier is particularly effective against floating algae. Also blue layers floating in the water or cyanobacteria are killed.

A UV emitter alone will usually not be able to prevent an algae plague. Due to its additional effects, a UV radiator can still be useful and can then also be used as a supplement to combat algae.

A UV radiator reduces the germ load and can therefore be helpful in combating diseases.

Since the load of germs in the aquarium water is significantly higher than the load in the natural home waters of the aquarium fish, it makes sense to reduce the number of germs. This positive effect must be weighed against the negative side effects in each individual case.

Thus, the effect of plant fertilizer is reduced by UV radiation. As a rule, a UV radiator should only be used in acute cases, e.g. B. in severe algae plague or acute cases of disease in fish, can be used temporarily.
