▷ Socialization of coral perch in the aquarium

Armored catfish and purple perch

It can be read from several field reports that purple perch, Pelviachromis pulcher, do not socialize well or even at all with armored catfish, Corydoras.

The reason for this is probably that the giant perches tend to stay in the lower water region and form large territories there. And so the armored catfish are mercilessly expelled and even hunted.

The consequences are injuries to the armored catfish, which then have no choice but to retreat somewhere in caves if they have the chance. All animals that also live on the ground are chased away. Especially when the female is leading the cubs. Socializing is discouraged.

Other bottom-dwelling species, on the other hand, may be left alone by coral perch. Maybe because they can defend themselves because of their size. These types include:

Otherwise, the purple perches are best kept with small, robust, calm fish species (possibly neons). Or if the tank is big enough (from 300l) with other magnificent perch. But caution is also required here.
