When socializing and keeping them with other fish species, care should be taken to ensure that these species do not have any conspicuously large or long fins.

Even the caudal fins of guppies are enough for the male to see a rival in the guppy and attack the guppy.

Fish for socializing should also not pluck fins like most barbel, e.g. B. Sumatran mullet.

Rasboa also come from Asia. However, they are usually too lively to be associated with bettas.

Fish that easily tyrannize other fish, e.g. B. Firetails.

There is a report that a male killed a dwarf gouramis despite dense planting.
Well suited for socialization are bottom dwellers, e.g. B. small armored catfish. Fighting fish can also be kept together with platies.

Together with suitable fish, bettas are usually peaceful outside of the spawning season.

Harlequin rasbora, Rasbora heteromorpha, are quite peaceful. They are also not one of those barbels that like to nibble or nibble on the fins or threads of other fish.

Harlequin barbs and Siamese fighting fish, Betta splendens, are usually in different places in the aquarium. Harlequin barbs like to swim in the current, while bettas prefer quieter spots.

The aquarium should have a densely planted corner, eg with chickweed. Thus, a retreat into the thicket can take place if the danios spread too much hectic in the aquarium.

socialization with paradise fish

As macropods, paradise fish like to have cooler temperatures of up to approx. 26°. As labyrinthine, Siamese fighting fish prefer higher temperatures from around 26°. Macropodus o. concolor at least likes higher temperatures. However, it cannot be ruled out that the macropods damage the fins of the bettas in the event of a tussle.

socialization with platies

can be kept together in an aquarium. It is often desirable that the bettas keep the number of young platies low.

For example, an aquarium with a capacity of 80 liters and dimensions of 80x30x40 cm is suitable. The tank can be planted 75% densely.

Suitable plants are, for example, Brazilian mosswort, American pearl leaf, buttercup, Valisneria and dwarf Amazonas.

The bottom can consist of fine gravel under 1.5mm diameter. Roots and some stones can be used for decoration.

Socialization with butterfly cichlids

can be kept together with a carbonate hardness of 4 – 5°dKH.

The former prefer the upper water regions, while the butterfly cichlids tend to stay close to the bottom.

Problems can arise when the butterfly cichlids spawn. When expelled from the breeding area, the fins of the betta can be damaged quickly. The aquarium must therefore be large enough so that there are enough places to retreat. It is better if an alternative pool is available.

Socialization with dwarf rasbora

can easily be kept together. Both species leave each other alone.
