The rose tetra, named from the group of true tetras, is also referred to as a white-finned tetra.
The well-tolerated fish are popular with aquarium owners, they are sturdy and easy to hold. Their pastel pink body color is particularly effective in a dark aquarium floor. When exposed to light, the fish shimmer like a neon and are transparent. Characteristic of rose tetras are their concise eyes and flattened physiognomy.
The fish live in their homeland in flowing waters. For this reason it is necessary that in the aquarium constant slight current is maintained.
gender differences
The sexes of the rose tetra hardly differ from each other.
In the males, the anal and dorsal fins are longer than in the females and they are colored somewhat more intensely.
Males and females do not differ in body size.
breed
The breeding tank should have a minimum height of 30 cm. It is important that the water is soft below 6°dGH, and slightly alkaline is. A pH of around 6.5 and clear water are ideal. The water temperature should be between 24 and 26 degrees. The Water must definitely be low in nitrate, otherwise breeding will not succeed. Fine-leaved plants such as java moss are suitable for planting.
Only the breeding pair should be placed in this tank. Breeding success can be significantly increased if the breeding animals are fed live food, such as black mosquito larvae.
The female lays up to 500 eggs in open water. After fertilization by the male, the parents must be removed from the tank. Roseate tetras are spawn robbers, they don’t stop at their own eggs. Alternatively, a spawning grate can be used.
The young hatch after a single day and are free-swimming after 5 days. Infusoria and later Artemia nauplii can be used as food.
The young fish need absolutely clean water for rearing.
socialization
Roseate tetras are ideal residents of community tanks. As schooling fish, they are social and do not form territories. They can be socialized with other peaceful fish.
Fertilized eggs of your own or other species are to be brought to safety from them. Once the young fish have hatched, there is no longer any danger.
