Posture recommendation
The Red Bee Shrimp is one of the most beautiful dwarf shrimp on the market. She is very popular because of her looks, but not very easy to keep. The right water values are extremely important for the little animals. If the values fluctuate too much, the Red Bee shrimp will die very quickly. Since these dwarf shrimp are very small and reach a maximum size of 3 cm, they can be kept in small nano tanks with a length of 20 cm.
They require dense planting of moss, roots and fine gravel or sand. Since they spend most of the day foraging, there should be enough plants and wood available. The feed should be balanced and varied. Although red bee shrimp are omnivores, the pure fish food is not sufficient for them. You need plant residues, algae, wood, leaves and vegetables. Animal food can also be fed once a week. Instead of fish food, there is also special shrimp food that contains the important components that a Red Bee shrimp needs.
gender differences
The sex of a Red Bee shrimp is very difficult to distinguish. Both sexes have very beautiful colors. However, only the female carries the eggs in her abdomen. Before that, they tend to be inseparable.
breed
Red Bee shrimp reproduce without problems if they are kept properly. In addition to the correct setup of the tank and balanced feeding, you should pay particular attention to constant water values. A frequent and therefore small water change can help. The more plants in the tank, the better. These contribute to good water values. The aquarium should be in a place protected from light and noise, as Red Bee shrimp are susceptible to stress.
Red Bee shrimp are sexually mature at three months of age. You can tell by the dark spot on the back of the shrimp. Before mating, the shrimp molt. The female carries the eggs in her abdomen and the male fertilizes them. The small shrimp then hatch after about four weeks. About 30 eggs will hatch from one litter. The hatched shrimp are fully developed and are not cared for by their parents. Powdered food is best for feeding the young animals. But these also eat dead plant parts and algae very quickly.
socialization
Red Bee shrimp can be socialized with small and peaceful fish species. Among others, danios are quite good for this. However, the tank size must of course be right for this.
Theoretically, you can also keep small tetra species together with dwarf shrimp. However, it can happen that they grab a young animal and eat it. Red Bee shrimp can be kept together with other dwarf shrimp, but there is a risk of crossbreeding. Unfortunately, the shrimp then lose their beautiful and intense colors after a short time.
