Where Apistogramma panduro come from

Apistogramma panduro were first found in the Rio Ucayali and its tributaries around Jenaro Herrera in Peru.

Keeping them is uncomplicated and the animals can easily be bred. The species has therefore quickly spread in aquaristics.

The housing conditions correspond to the housing conditions for Apistogramma nijsseni.

Apistogramma panduro naming history

The species Apistogramma panduro was prior to its description as Apistogramma sp. Marked “Pandurini”. In German Pandurini dwarf cichlid. The species is therefore often named after A. pandurini. However, this designation is wrong.

The valid name is Apistogramma panduro. The species belongs to the Cacatuoides complex. The closest relative is the species Apistogramma nijsseni, which also looks very similar.

Housing conditions for A. panduro

Contrary to the information from the Mergus Aquarenatlas, the species should not be kept at 23° C permanently. 26° to 28° are better.

A single pair can be kept in a 60 cm tank. A male is better kept with two to three females in 80 to 100 centimeters.

A larger group requires aquariums that are at least 150 centimeters long.

A. panduro adapt relatively well to the water parameters. However, they should definitely be kept in soft to medium-hard and acidic water.
