Indian algae eaters, Crossocheilus latus (latius), grow to 15 centimeters in length. The animals like to jump, especially early in the morning. They are very difficult to catch. They can be kept in densely planted tanks with relatively soft water at around 200 µS and a neutral pH.
They eat all types of algae, including brush algae, but prefer food tablets. So that they eat algae, they have to be kept short with other food.
Indian algae eaters are lively and can be aggressive towards other fish species. You then claim e.g. B. all caves in the aquarium and drive other fish out of the area. When at least two Indian Algae Eaters are kept together, they mostly fight among themselves. However, even then, they whirl everything up with their arguments. For example, an algae eater swims ahead, under a stone; the other one behind, right through the resting armored catfish, which shoot away in all directions while stealing the food from other fish, back through the cave to the catfish. Suck the catfish if it doesn’t escape. Chase away the catfish. It goes like this for hours.
Because algae can also be combated in other ways, one should carefully consider whether the animals should not remain cute and small and not acquire the animals if they are to be kept to destroy algae and not out of interest in the animals.
