Look
Although they are small, they are emerald green shimmering gems an eye-catcher in the pool. Their basic color is greenish yellow. The iridescent jewel effect comes from the longitudinal bands shimmering in the light. The eyes, belly and gill covers of these fishes also shimmer like emeralds. The fins are inconspicuously transparent.
Posture recommendation
In their homeland inhabit the animals slow-flowing waters. Here they keep in the densely overgrown shoreline on.
The tank for the green neon dwarf rasbora should have densely planted areas where the animals can withdraw. Roots, caves, stone structures or tubes are other hiding places.
gender differences
The Males are slimmer than females.
breed
Although the animals no spawn robbers are, a separate tank should be used for the rearing of the offspring. Breeding success is higher when the water is acidic. In addition, the young fish can be fed specifically in their own tank.
As free spawners the females lay their eggs between slender plants. After fertilization by the male, the eggs are left to fend for themselves. The animals do not care for their brood, the breeding pair can be put back into the common tank.
Alternatively, the eggs can be laid in the normal tank. The plants with the eggs are then transferred to the rearing tank.
The tiny juveniles will fed in the first few weeks with infusoria, rotifers and parameciums or the finest powdered food. Later, when they are big enough, they get freshly hatched Artemia nauplii.
socialization
Green neon dwarf rasboras can be socialized with other peaceful fish, dwarf shrimp or mussels. Any shrimp offspring will not be eaten. An association with Crabs are not possible. The dwarf rasboras are at the top of the menu for crabs.
Suitable roommates are red tetra, Microrasboras or dwarf catfish and similar fish, Amano shrimp or fan shrimp.
