The grass plant”Lilaeopsis brasiliensis” belongs to the umbelliferae family and genus lilac eopsis and is also under the name Lilaeopsis brasiliensis known. It originally comes from South America, which the Latin name already suggests. There it grows in the riparian areas of rivers and swamps.

Her growth height is 4 to 7 cm and it becomes more than 5 cm wide. Ideally, the grass plant is placed at the front of the aquarium, as it needs a lot of light and enough space to expand. It tolerates all levels of water hardness, but care should be taken to ensure a low salt concentration. The preferred water temperature of the bushy aquarium plant is between 15 and 26 degrees with an oxygen concentration of 10 to 20 mg per liter. The PH value of the water should be 6.0 to 8.0.

Since the plant grows slowly, patience is required. The grass plant propagates through side shoots. The individual plants should be planted a few centimeters apart at the front of the aquarium tank so that they grow together more quickly. The more light the seedlings have with them, the better they can thrive and give the aquarium the typical underwater meadow impression. Should the leaves grow too large, they can be trimmed by regular pruning.

The level of difficulty for grass plants is 3, which is why they are only partially suitable for aquaristic beginners.

Look

The grass plant does not have its name for nothing, because it looks like the green grass in the meadow. The movement in the water really shows off the aquarium and is also the ideal hiding place for small fish and shrimp.

distribution

Lilaeopsis brasiliensis, also known as Brazilian grass plant and New Zealand grass, is widespread, especially in South America. In the south of Brazil, in Paraguay and in Argentina, the grass plant can be found up to an altitude of 1,000 meters in river and swamp areas.

husbandry conditions

The plant feels at home in ponds, but is also an ideal plant for brackish water aquariums. They need a bright location with plenty of light. Since it reproduces itself through side shoots, it does not need any special care.
