Gold Mollys are an asset to an aquarium and very popular companion fish. It is a breeding form of the blackfin fish. The wild form has a silvery-green color. Mollys are live-bearing toothcarps.
Origin
In the wild, the blackfin fish occurs in slow-flowing freshwater bodies of water, sometimes also in brackish water. Gold Mollys come in different sizes, body proportions and fin shapes through targeted breeding. They are very frugal when it comes to water values and especially temperature, but temperature fluctuations should be avoided at all costs. They feel particularly comfortable in hard water.
gender differences
Females are slightly rounder and larger than males. The males can be seen that their dorsal fin is often slightly larger and they have a reshaped anal fin, a gonopodium.
breed
Gold Mollys are keen to reproduce and reproduce without the aquarium owner having to do anything. The females give birth to around 30 to 80 young fish several times a year after a gestation period of four weeks. Immediately after birth, the little ones seek shelter in the plants.
Some mollies eat part of their offspring. However, since the young fish are quite robust and many survive with appropriate hiding places, this can quickly lead to too many fish in the aquarium.

All soft water fish are not suitable for socializing. Gold Mollys can also be kept with other Mollys. In this case, the offspring will no longer have the beautifully colored golden color.
Other questions
When are Gold Mollys sexually mature?
Gold Mollys are sexually mature at around six months. From this point on, juvenile fish must always be expected in the aquarium, since Mollys are keen to reproduce.
Which aquarium plants go well with Gold Mollys?
Since mollies like dense planting and like to nibble on the plants, fast-growing plants are well suited. They like to hide in dense vegetation. Young animals in particular like to retreat into the dense plants. These should be tall, because mollies are mainly found in the middle and upper area of the aquarium. Hygrophila or hornwort, for example, are very suitable. In addition to plants, Gold Mollys like other hiding places where the females can retreat from intrusive males.
How old does a Gold Molly get?
The age that Gold Mollys reach is dependent on the water temperature in which they are kept, especially as juveniles. The warmer the water, the faster these fish grow. Mollys live from three to five years.
