Catfish change their color and get large, light brown spots.
The discoloration seems to change depending on mood, whim and well-being.
It’s probably a stress stain.
This can be triggered by inappropriate water values, intraspecific aggression, lack of hiding places, but also by the presence of females ready to spawn.

The ground on which the animals lie also seems to play a role. Often these spots appear when the animals lie quietly in a cave, under a root or under a leaf for a while.
Light incidence could also play a role. When they swim around or there is something to eat, the spots usually go away.
Close observation can often reveal the reason for the discoloration.
